I’ve been sick all week. By my best estimate, this is my 382nd cold this school year. It was the worst one, though. I have had to go to big guns prescription drugs this time — not a good thing.
Add to it a week with two half-day subs and my students are feeling their oats. Two of them are going to have a Day of Reckoning today. They’ll get detention and have to fill out long, agonizing behavior reflections that have to be signed by their parents. Their crime? Absolute over-the-top misbehavior with the sub yesterday. Add to it that I was in the next room. Not good. Not good at all. And, worse, not smart.
So, added to my list of things that doesn’t work . . . being sick and having half-day subs.
But, it’s Thursday so this too shall pass.
Yesterday, I went to a Step Up to Writing training. It worked. Not only did I get some things I can use immediately with my students, but I got a mental break. Furthermore, I got to meet my sub when I got back to pick up my own personal kids. She was great and the kids did well, including my two that I worry about and made extensive preparations for — hurrah!
